Life for Beryl Roberts on humanity’s latest outpost in space is pretty good. Sure, she has some problems. Every animal on the planet is looking for a human-sized snack. Thanks to work, she has to see her ex-boyfriend on a daily basis. And her mother won’t let Beryl forget that she is never going to find anyone better than said ex-boyfriend on a planet where eligible men are few and far between. But overall, it’s not a bad place to be stuck.

 

At least, it wasn’t a bad place to be stuck until the day a ship appeared in the skies overhead.

 

As Beryl and her fellow colonists are about to find out, the new arrivals in the ship above them are not quite as alien—nor as friendly—as they initially appear.

 

Soon, Beryl finds herself in a fight not just for her own life, but for humanity as a whole. And even if she manages to save her own planet, will it be enough to ensure the survival of the human race?
